Traffic calming devices. I had never heard of such a thing and when local law enforcement posted on Facebook that they had installed them nearby, my curiosity was piqued. I have spent much of my adult life working to help people be calm, but I had never heard of helping traffic be calm!
I ventured out to see first hand what these traffic calming devices were. I soon learned these apparatuses are a mix of speed bumps and strategically-placed tall, thin, orange poles. Fast forward a few weeks and now I see that they worked—traffic seems a lot calmer!
Then a thought occurred to me. “I wonder if the police would install calming devices in my home when I need it. Would they install them in our places of employment, our churches, and even in our minds? I sure know a lot of people, myself included, that need to be calmed from time to time!”
You don’t think so? Neither do I, but it was a good idea. I do know someone who can help, though. This is the same One who stood in a boat in the middle of a storm and with a word spoken, calmed the wind and waves. This is the same One who spoke into people’s lives and infused them with peace so powerful, it stilled the most raging of hearts. Who is it? The Prince of Peace. Jesus of Nazareth.
If you need peace in your life, why don’t you to give Him a try? I have seen the peace come time and time again in people I know and in my own life, too.
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27 (NIV2011))
